God made each of us uniquely and wonderfully. He also gave us some pretty amazing gifts. These gifts, called
charisms or
spiritual gifts, are powered by the Holy Spirit and
empower us to help God build His kingdom here on earth. (Kind of like Holy Spirit super powers!)
So how do we use these gifts to serve God? A great way to begin is by identifying
which spiritual gifts the Holy Spirit has given you. To do this, we enter into a process called
discernment where we prayerfully consider how God is calling us to serve (learn more about this process
here). As a first step to discernment, read this
quick overview of the spiritual gifts. Then, take a look at the list below to see where your gifts might best serve God and his people.
Note: Please read the
"Before You Volunteer" page if the ministry you choose involves working with kids.
serving with our gifts
Gifts of mercy or encouragement: Do you feel drawn to help and/or pray for the sick or suffering? Do you like to provide meals to families who are facing physical or emotional hardships? Consider joining a
Caring Ministry.
Gifts of hospitality, helps or craftsmanship: Do you like meeting new people and making them feel welcome? Do you like to cook meals or bake? Are you good at organizing events? Then consider joining one of our
Hospitality Ministries.
Gifts of knowledge, evangelism or teaching: If you enjoy learning about our faith, teaching children or sharing your faith with others, consider joining a
Teaching Ministry.
Gifts of service, helps, hospitality, administration or craftmanship: It takes many hands to make our weekend liturgies run smoothly. From preparing the church before Mass to handing out bulletins after Mass, if you are a real "doer", you might feel at home in one of our
Liturgical Prep Ministries.
Gifts of knowledge, helps, service, hospitality or music: Do you love the Mass or love to read God's Word? Are you good with technology? Do people often tell you that you are gifted musically? Are you naturally SUPER friendly? Then something in our
Liturgical Ministry is just for you!
Gifts of faith, wisdom or evangelism or love for the Sacraments: If you enjoy being part of or supporting people during the big “faith” moments in their lives, consider joining one of our
Sacramental Ministries.
Gift of intercessory prayer: We are all called to spend time in prayer… But if you have a faith or prayer charism, a
Prayer Ministry is a great place to begin serving.
