Stations of the Cross at 1 p.m., followed by The Solemn Liturgy of the Lord's Passion at 2 p.m. A day of fasting and abstinence.
The Lenten season is a time of fasting and abstinence. Fasting is done in many ways. We fast from food. We fast from hurtful practices – from gossiping or from using a sharp tongue. We fast within the liturgy – refraining from singing the Alleluia and the Gloria. We fast visually with the sparseness of the liturgical environment.
The Church asks that we eat only one meal during a day of fast, and two smaller meals that together are less than a full meal. Laws of fasting apply to those from ages 18 to 59 unless there are health concerns.
Our Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence – abstaining from eating red meat and poultry. This can be a reminder of our Lenten journey which calls us to the Paschal Mystery.
